Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, also called Alice in Wonderland, is a book written in 1865 by Lewis Carroll, a teacher at the University of Oxford. The story is about a girl named Alice who falls down a rabbit hole into a magical world with talking animals and other strange creatures. This book is known as a fun, silly story. It has 42 pictures drawn by an artist named John Tenniel.

When the book came out, people liked it, and now it’s one of the most famous books from the Victorian time. The story, characters, and pictures have influenced many other books and movies, especially in fantasy. People say it helped change children’s books, making them more fun to read instead of just teaching lessons. The story plays with ideas like logic, so both kids and adults enjoy it.

The main character, Alice, shares her name with Alice Liddell, a girl Lewis Carroll knew. Some people think Alice in the story might be based on her, but there’s no agreement on how much.

The book has always been printed and has been translated into 174 languages. It has inspired movies, radio shows, artwork, ballets, operas, plays, theme parks, and video games. Carroll also wrote a second book in 1871 called Through the Looking-Glass and made a shorter version for younger children in 1890 called The Nursery "Alice."
